QRC Projects
Broadway to Freeway
This exhibition at Santa Monica History Museum tells the story of how residents from African American, Mexican American, and immigrant communities built the Broadway neighborhood in Santa Monica into a flourishing community of color – and how the Interstate 10 freeway destroyed it in the 1960s.
The Broadway Project
18th Street Arts Center is a long-term partner with the Quinn Research Center supporting their vision of a Broadway Historic Cultural District through the development of public art in Santa Monica that celebrates the Black culture and history. Please visit 18th Street's Broadway Project webpage for more information on projects produced to date.
The Quinn Gallery at the Santa Monica History Museum
The Quinn Gallery is a partnership of the Santa Monica History Museum and the Quinn Research Center (QRC). The Quinn Gallery advances the museum’s commitment to inclusivity as we continue our mission to share the rich, diverse history of the Santa Monica Bay area. The QRC is an archive of Black family history and Santa Monica Bay culture. Established by Carolyne and Bill Edwards, as a tribute to the legacy of Dr. Alfred T. Quinn, a prominent Santa Monica Black educator and community leader.
The Dr. Alfred T. Quinn Collection Project
The Dr. Alfred T. Quinn Collection Project is an internship in the digital archive collection for Santa Monica College students. The internship is a collaboration of the Quinn Research Center, Santa Monica College's Black Collegians Center and History Department, the Santa Monica Public Library, and the Ralph J. Bunche Center for African American Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles that houses the Quinn collection.
